Japanese Language School for International Students

Gifu Keizai University is committed to promoting cross-cultural and international academic exchange. For this purpose, we accept students from all over the world. Our Japanese Language School for International Students, an affiliation with Gifu Keizai University, is designed for those students who plan to apply for admission to the undergraduate division of Japanese universities. Our courses cater for the needs of those who wish to develop their Japanese language skills. Our goals are to enable students to acquire a high level of fluency in Japanese, make steady progress in their studies, and understand Japanese culture and society.

Gifu Keizai University was founded in 1967 as a publicly-established yet privately-managed university, based on the principles of Independence and Freedom, Nurturing the “Whole Person”, and Cooperation with the Local Community. With the advent of globalization, the university began accepting foreign students in 1994, and in 2001 it opened the Japanese Language School for International Students. Since that time, this language school has welcomed students from various countries around the world, such as China, Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Canada, and the USA.

The characteristics of the Japanese Language School for International Students can be summed up as follows:
First, small classes, which enable instructors to cater for individual student needs.
Second, highly accomplished academic staff who teach in a polite, considerate manner.
Third, a well-designed curriculum, which enables students to attain proficiency in Japanese with ease.
Fourth, low tuition fees.

Every year, most of our graduates advance to the undergraduate school of Gifu Keizai University. Upon completing their Bachelor's degree, they go on to become active participants in the social world. We are especially pleased that the graduates of our school have spread the circle of friendship all over the world.

Subjects

Japanese Language Study

Most of the subjects at the school focus on helping students to acquire language ability to the standard required to enter Japanese universities. Students are expected to take a placement test at the beginning of the course. Based on the results of this test, students are divided into two levels of class: elementary level and intermediate level in the first semester; intermediate level and advanced level in the second semester.

Study of Japanese Culture (Cross-Cultural Understanding)

Students are expected to acquire a basic knowledge of Japanese culture and society, which will be useful for their studies and daily lives.
Students may also take classes in English and other languages if they so wish.

Outline of Japanese Language Course and Completion

This course starts in April and finishes in March. We accept new students in April. Students who have taken 31 units will obtain a certificate of the completion of this Japanese language course.

Preparation for Entrance to Japanese Universities

  • Our course is specially designed for preparing foreign students to enter universities in Japan. Students can receive practical training for the Japanese Examination for Foreign Students (ryugaku-shiken), which foreign students who plan to enter Japanese universities are required to take (in most cases). The choice of university will depend on the score in the examination.
  • Students with a high level of achievement on the course may receive a recommendation from the school for admission to our university.
